One very frequent question I get about pet health from pet owners is this:
"When is it ok to treat my pet at home, and when should I take her to the vet?"
This is something that's fundamental. Most people simply do not believe that they can take care of their pet's health issues
at home. They feel that the Veterinarian is the only one who can take care of any pet health issue, and that they should always
go straight to their Veterinarian for even the slightest problem. Truth be told, it's what many Veterinarians would have you believe.
Veterinarians want you to believe that only a veterinarian can examine, diagnose and treat your pet, for even the slightest issue -
they want you to "leave it in the hands of the experts". But I disagree.
The real truth is that you know your pet better than anyone else. You know the subtle differences in behavior that indicate that
something may be wrong, you know how he or she reacts to situations, and how best to handle him or her. And your pet needs you,
especially if they are sick or hurt. You are all they have, you are their world.
Your pets heal faster and just plain feel better when they are with you - and not locked up in some cage at the vet clinic.
Yes, there are definitely situations where you will need to take your pet in to the vet, no question - for surgery, emergencies and
critical care - but for many other day-to-day issues, you CAN treat your pet at home, yourself.
I'm here to help empower you, as a pet owner, to take charge of your pet's health! You can take steps NOW to deal with
many, many different pet health issues. You'll be surprised at what you can do to save money, and provide (in many cases) better care
and achieve better results than with just conventional veterinary medicine.
